Garbage/Refuse Collection

Tyrone Township does not provide a township-wide garbage service or yard waste pickup. Residents will need to contract their own waste company, although some homeowners associations may contract with a company on behalf of a subdivision. If you move into an area with a homeowners association, please check with the association.  

Five subdivisions have special assessments in place to pay for garbage pickup.  Information for those subdivisions are listed on the right.

Garbage companies that service our area are listed below. Remember to ask if yard waste pickup and/or recycling services are provided. Please call the garbage company direct if you have any problems.

Livingston County's Waste/Recycling Events

Livingston County offers several waste/recycling events each year. Please check the Department of Public Work/Solid Waste for information on these programs.

Drop Off Recycling

  • Most, if not all, garbage companies offer curbside recycling, so check with your garbage provider to see if recycling is offered.

  • Drop off recycling is also available to county residents at Recycle Livingston for a nominal fee.  Contact 517-548-4439 or visit www.recyclelivingston.org for information about acceptable materials, location, hours and fees. A list of accepted materials may be viewed here.

  • The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) website is an excellent source to learn how and where to recycle or dispose of specific materials with their directory.

Recycling & Yard Waste

BATTERIES may be brought to the township hall.  We accept UP TO SIZE D ONLY. Home Depot accepts an assortment of sizes.

POWER TOOL BATTERIES and COMPACT FLUORESCENT BULBS (spiral) are accepted at Home Depot.

ELECTRONICS are accepted at many Best Buy and Staples stores.

STYROFOAM (#6 plastic) is accepted at Recycle Livingston. 

YARD WASTE (leaves, grass) is accepted at Michigan Landscape Supply on Fenway Drive in Fenton for a fee ($5-20).  Please call to schedule at 810-629-5200.

DOCUMENT SHREDDING- Staples stores accept documents to shred for a fee.  Click here for info.  Recycle Livingston also offers shredding service for  $.75 a pound at their facility.  They also hold annual shredding events in April.  Click here for Recycle Livingston’s info.

Citizens Disposal Landfill is located along US-23 and Grand Blanc Rd.  Please call to verify hours, fees, and materials accepted.

Dougie's Disposal

Notice to Dougie’s Disposal Customers

To ensure all residents get their trash picked up in a timely manner, Dougie’s requests advance notice to schedule a pickup of large bulk items or extra bags over the 2-bag limit.

Subdivisions with Special Assessments

The five subdivisions listed below have special assessments to contract with a company for waste and recycling pickup. Some homeowner’s associations may organize their own garbage service; please contact your HOA to see if available. The township office does not have HOA contact information.
