Welcome to

Tyrone Township

Tyrone Township, first settled in 1834, is located in the northeastern-most corner of Livingston County, Michigan.  Historically, a major Indian trail called the Shiawassee Trail crossed through Tyrone Township as a connection between Detroit and the Shiawassee County community of Shiawasseetown.  Today, the township is a picturesque rural community with rolling hills blended with lakes, golf courses and open spaces.  The census population of Tyrone Township for 2010 was 10,020 citizens.  (More historical information may be found HERE.)

Tyrone Township welcomes and encourages resident involvement in the community. Residents may serve on appointed boards or commissions within the township and have the opportunity to make decisions on important public issues. Some of these opportunities to serve the community are Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Board of Review.

Registrations

INCORRECT VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS

It has come to our attention that a large number of vehicle registrations are improperly assigned to Genesee County, NOT Livingston.  This means the township is losing 42 cents on every dollar that you pay for your license plates to Genesee County instead of being available to fix our roads.

Please check your vehicle registration to make sure it is properly assigned to Livingston County.  If it is incorrect, call the Secretary of State's office at 888-767-6424 so the township gets its proper share of the dollars.

NOTICE- Sewer Rate Increase

NOTICE OF SEWER RATE INCREASE

In reference to the approval at the Tyrone Township board meeting on February 5, 2013 there has been a rate increase for operating & maintenance (O&M) of the sewer.   The reason for this rate increase is due to a flow rate increase from Livingston County, effective January 1, 2013, for the use of the sewer system.   These rate changes will be reflected in the April 2013 Utility Bill for all sewer billings in both residential and commercial.

The following increase will cover cost incurred as of January 1, 2013:

Grinder Residents = $185.50
Gravity Residents = $171.50

These rates include sewer flow usage along with funds held under Operating and Maintenance for  repairs and maintenance to the system and funds held under Sewer Debt for payment to sewer bonds.   Should you have any sewer emergencies contact Livingston County Drain Commission at (517) 546-0040.

Flag Disposal

FLAG DISPOSAL

The Tyrone Township hall is no longer accepting worn flags for disposal, due to the high volume received.  The Hartland Area Fire Station at 3205 Hartland Rd., Hartland, MI 48353 has a "Worn Flag Disposal" bin in the front of the building for drop-offs.  The American Legion Post 415 installed the bin and are responsible for retiring the flags.
